Ainsley has changed so much since her birth! She is 25 inches long and I would guess she weighs about 15 pounds. She is very vocal- she coos all the time. There are so many different noises, some of them really sound like words and sentences. She has even squealed a few times- it always makes Dan and me giggle to hear the squeals. I think she will be giggling soon. She gives us lots of smiles too and her dimples are really noticeable!
Ainsley is very strong- she holds her head all of the time. She has a very strong grasp and has even pinched me a few times. She has grasped her rattle several times and she likes to wave it around. She has started grabbing other objects near her too. She grabs and pulls my hair- her fists always have a few strands of my hair in them. She stands very well on her legs and can maintain her weight for a long time with us supporting her body. She will try to pull her body up when she is sitting in her bouncy chair and she can sit up when propped against a pillow. We took her for a few walks and she was in her infant carrier facing forwards- the first time we had her forward facing because she could hold up her head. She seemed to enjoy walking and looking around.
She likes her play matt- she always wiggles and kicks so much that she gets the music to play. She also bats at the objects hanging from it and enjoys watching them swing in front of her.
She seems to see and track objects really well. She is fascinated by the ceiling fans and stares at them a lot. We are going to put one up in her bedroom this weekend to help keep it cool and for entertainment too.
Ainsley has continued to lose lots of hair and now she has several noticeable thin spots on her head. The back and sides are pretty thin- much thinner than when she was born. The remaining hair is getting pretty long. I think she is going to be blessed (or cursed) with my hair. It was really humid this week and when we were outside her hair seemed to curl a little and it looked a little frizzy. I was hoping she would have Dan’s hair so it wouldn’t be frizzy, with maybe a little of my curl.
She is pooping fewer times per day and as a result, she is having one – two massive poops per day. She often overflows her diaper as they can only hold so much.
Today we went to Home Depot for a few things (her first trip there). We stopped at Chik-Fil-A for lunch on the way home and Ainsley fell asleep in the car. When we got home, Ainsley woke up and so I put her in her bouncy chair while we ate. She scrunched up her face and looked serious for a minute. Dan picked her up and noticed that there was a little poop coming from the front of her diaper. When he was changing her- I heard : “Oh my god! This is huge. I have never seen such a big poop. This must be the biggest ever.” And a few more Oh My God’s. I went to see what was going on. There was poop all the way up her chest, on her arms, and on her legs. She was waving her arms and legs and getting more poop on them. I quickly helped Dan try to wipe the majority of the poop off of her so that she didn’t get it on her face or the other clean parts. I immediately ran a bath and we bathed her after wiping her down. Thank goodness she waited until we were home and we had eaten lunch! I know this will probably gross out non parents, but I think every parent out there has a similar entertaining story. Now maybe she only weighs 13 pounds or so.
I went back to work on May 3rd. I am working three days a week and several Saturday’s a month. My first week of work went really well. Work was fairly busy and I enjoyed being back. There were several clients who had waited until I returned to bring in their pets- that made me feel quite good. My mother in law stayed with Ainsley and everything went really well with them. I had been leaving them together for a few hours each week in preparation for returning to work. However, the longest I had been away from Ainsley was about 4.5 hours until this week. But, I am fortunate in that I was able to come home for lunch each day and see Ainsley so I was only away for 6 hours in the morning, then 3 hours in the afternoon. I was even able to nurse Ainsley when I was home at lunch which was nice for both of us. I hope that I will be able to continue to see her during my lunches (at least during most of them).
