We had some friends over for a BBQ Saturday night. We had lots of good food – brisquit, corn on the cob, baked beans, asparagus and lots of appetizers. Remi was salivating the entire evening. She was close at hand while the meal was being prepared and eaten.
This morning, Remi vomited before her breakfast. Dan cleaned it up but did not know what she vomited, but there was something in her vomit. I looked in the trash and saw several large pieces of corn on the cob and thought, "Oh, no." Luckily it had been chewed up, but the pieces only accounted for about half of the cob. Where is the rest? I am hoping that she chewed the entire piece up well so that it will pass through her. I think corn on the cob is the most common food item that causes obstructions in dogs so I am really worried Remi will have some further problems from it.
She was very quiet all day, but no further vomiting has occurred. I palpated her abdomen twice and both times she seemed comfortable. But, she did not bug me for her dinner which she always does in the afternoon ( starting at 3 pm, lasts until fed around 6 pm).
When I discovered that she had eaten the corn, I was amazed that she had gotten it without alerting me or Dan. I think she could have gotten into the trash quickly, but then she had to chew up the corn too. When did she do all that without alerting us? Of course, we have a little distraction named Ainsley, but, it is still really frustrating. She has just healed up completely from her last surgery and now this.
Hopefully, no one at work will be seeing Remi this week.
