Last week my Mom was in town. We had a really nice time, but the week seemed to pass much too quickly. Grandma got to spend some great quality time with her granddaughter.
On Tuesday, we took a small road trip to San Antonio to see my sister Sara. Ainsley went with us- her first road trip. She did really well- she fell asleep in the car on the way there and back. While we were at Sara’s – she spent fun time with her Grandma and Auntie Sara.
Wednesday my Mom and I ran a bunch of errands with Ainsley. We went to Babies R Us and got a few things- Ainsley fell asleep in her carseat and stayed asleep while we were there. Since she was sleeping we stopped at Home Depot next and got some plants for my garden. She was still sleeping so we went to Costco and got some things too. We made it home with her still sleeping (after 3 hours). She slept just long enough after we got home for me to unpack most things! Of course, she would sleep the entire time when I had someone to help me with her, but it was still a good thing. We will see how she does in the future as I am planning to take her out and about more now that she is older.
Ainsley has begun to smile regularly when you talk to her. The regular smiles started about the middle of the week last week, so she was 7 .5 weeks old! We get more and more smiles every day. It is one of the best feelings in the world to have her smile when I talk to her or look at her. She loves the mornings and is usually very happy and full of smiles. Yesterday, she smiled at me when I looked into her crib in the morning- what a wonderful way to start the day.
Guess what! Ainsley slept through the night 3 times last week. Wednesday night, Friday night and Saturday night she went to bed around 11 and slept until 7. Most other nights she slept between 5 and 6 hours in a row. I still woke up around the regular nursing times and checked on her, but I felt quite refreshed in the mornings. I realize this is unlikely to continue, but it was a nice break and gives me hope that she will have good night sleep habits in the future.
Ainsley also made the move to her bedroom and her own crib on Friday. We had been putting her down for naps in her crib during the week and I decided to let her try the evening too. She seemed crowded in her bassinet and I thought the mattress of her crib would be more comfortable. She seems to like her crib because she is always stretched out! We were able to start using our awesome baby monitor- it has sound and video.
Friday I took Ainsley to Dan’s office for lunch. It was her first visit there to meet everyone and she did great. She fell asleep in the truck on the way there and slept for the first 20 minutes. When she woke up she was still tired so she was really quiet.

Those are great photos. I love her smile. It's amazing how much it changes their face when they finally can show that emotion.
This may be the beginning of good sleep again. Faith started sleeping 6-7 hrs through the night at 6 weeks and never went back. It was fantastic. Based on that experience I thought, "hey, I could have 5 babies!" Yeah, right.
I love that smiley photo! And the fat thighs in the last photo!
Anna was a good sleeper, too. Colin tried waking up in the middle of the night after a few months of sleeping through (at 4 or 5 months? can't remember exactly). Anthony rolled over and said, "Aren't you going to get up and feed him?" And I said, "No! He can last without another meal! I don't want this to be a habit." It was hard to listen to him, but it only lasted 3 nights, then it was back to long night rests for us all. It makes such a difference!!!
